Cybernet Zero-Footprint PC

from the all-in-one dept

Rami Kassab writes "There's a new compact PC out on the market and this time it isn't just another laptop. Cybernet has built the first ever keyboard PC. It sports most of the hardware features power-users like to see in a computer while maintaining its sleek compact design. The Zero-Footprint is semi-expandable with its 1 PCI expansion slot. It can house up to 1GB of RAM and can run on up to a 1GHz PIII. A 20 GB 2.5" 7200 RPM hard drive is included as well." Interesting, but I'm not sure I believe the "first ever" claim. I'm pretty sure I've seen similar set ups before. Also, if you're going to make it that small, why not shrink it even further to make it the same base size as a laptop, and have a way to plug it in to a headsup display, to make it really useful.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Re: Keyboard PCs

Well, of course, my old Atari 800 was also a keyboard PC...

But, I know I've seen more recent, "Wintel" style keyboard PCs as well.

    This isn't new

I've seen PCs like this COMDEX for the past 3 or 4 years. They're neat, and reasonably priced, but they are not brand new.

    No Subject Given

The problem here is that if the keyboard gets all gunky, how do you fix it without replacing the whole pc?

    APPLE!

Apple sparked the PC revolution with the Apple I and Apple II, both "keyboard PCs". Sure, they weren't "zero footprint", but.... if you think people used Atari-800s as laptop keyboards....

    zero-footprint computer

Just want you to know if your zero footprint computer is the cone built by Cybernet the product does not work well after about 2 weeks - locks up constantly; the company does not allow refunds on defective merchandise and is a very rude, disrespectful comany to work with. I just don't want someone else to be burnt like I have been. Thanks

    Re: zero-footprint computer

I have been looking at the footprint for awhile now (p3-866). I would be very interested to hear just what Cybernet said about your lockups, etc.? Additionally I would like to agree with you that their attitude is terrible as I myself have found out speaking with them.
    Thank You,
    Alan K.
