NBC Gone For Many Bay Area Viewers
from the bye-bye dept
If you live in the Bay Area it's been difficult to miss all the news reports about how NBC had ditched their affiliation with KRON 4 in San Francisco in favor of KNTV 3 in San Jose. For the past few weeks any time you watched channel 4, they told you how NBC had pulled their shows off, but they were going to keep going as KRON 4 without any of the NBC shows. Now, many people who don't have cable are simply without NBC completely, despite this being the 5th largest market. The San Jose broadcast isn't strong enough to reach parts of San Francisco and Oakland. Earlier this evening I went hunting for the new NBC, and for me (and my cable system) it turns out that "channel 3" actually means "channel 11". So, despite all the advertisements telling me to check out channel 3 to find NBC, it turns out that NBC 3 is really on channel 11. That's helpful.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
