Wireless Companies And Satellite Radio Fight It Out

from the spectrum-clashes dept

Yet another angry legal battle to make fun of. It seems that wireless companies and the satellite radio guys have some overlapping spectrum they're fighting about. The wireless companies, who have done nothing with the spectrum, are afraid that the satellite radio repeater towers will interfere with whatever they eventually do with the spectrum. Yes, that's right. They don't know what they're doing, but they're already talking about how these other companies (who already have stuff working) will interfere with those plans. The various filings to the FCC about the matter are pretty funny. The best comes from one of the satellite radio companies, Sirius, who says that unless the wireless companies are "illiterate" they should know how to design around any interference problems and that any interference will be caused by "poor engineering" on the part of the wireless companies.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
