The People Have Their Say On The Microsoft Settlement
from the 1000-and-1-ways-to-say-it-stinks dept
Well, the period for public comments on the Microsoft anti-trust settlement is now over and both sides are claiming their supporters sent in thousands of letters supporting their point of view. Of course, the chance of any of these letters actually being read by anyone who will have any bearing on what happens next seems pretty slim. All of the comments will apparently be published at some point in the Federal Register, at which point it could make for some interesting reading. I wonder how many of the pro-Microsoft letters contain passages clearly written by MS PR flaks (sometimes offering bribes to people to write in their support), and how many anti-settlement letters are clearly written by Slashdot kiddies. If only there were an easy way to filter out both extremes, it might be an interesting discussion.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
