Tivo To Spy On Super Bowl Watchers
from the just-how-do-you-use-your-tivo? dept
Tivo is saying that for this year's Super Bowl they're going to spy on how users watch the game (and the commercials). They're going to keep track of when people fast forward and rewind, and which parts they're most interested in. I imagine this will be their way of demonstrating the sort of beyond-Nielsen info they'll be able to generate about Tivo users and how they watch TV. I wonder if people will get annoyed that Tivo is watching their every click of the remote? Of course, Tivo apparently needs to do something because people still aren't rushing out to buy them. I still think they really need to pretty much give the boxes away. People aren't buying them because they still cost too much.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

too expensive -- maybe
At that price, I bought two -- replacing both my top-of-the-line Sony directv recievers.
The stand-alone or cable-ready versions ARE too expensive, I agree
