Hyping .NET
from the um.--wow. dept
I've seen lots of hype about .NET and web services and plenty of other stuff, but Salon is running an article that is so gushingly full of praise for .NET that it's almost scary. The writer does at least bring up a few of the points made by people concerned about .NET, but brushes them off just as quickly. The more I understand about web services and things like .NET, the more useful I can see them becoming. However, the excessive praise dumped on it in this article is a bit too much. I'm sorry, but the introduction of .NET is unlikely to be remembered along with the works of Gutenberg and Babbage. I guess it's not really a surprise to find out that the author is working on not one, but two books about .NET. Might as well get the hype rolling early so he'll get more sales.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
