It's All Flash Now

from the too-much dept

Macromedia wants Flash to take over the world. They're getting ready to launch a new product that will make it easier to design entire websites in Flash. While I understand some of the benefits of this, I also see it as pissing off a lot of users who have problems with Flash sites, or dealing with incompatibilities. I think the main problem I have with Flash is that it tends to make people too creative and try to build fancy (and slow to download) animations and other gimmicks into their sites when they're not at all necessary.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Problem

The biggest problem with flash is that it is non-indexable so your website would never enter any of the search engines!!

    Better web-apps

Although, Flash does provide a great way to implement dialog boxes and things that we can't do with HTML (their new version is supposed to support these things). And it's not from Microsoft. I doubt, though, that Macromedia has put a complete development toolkit behind it.
