Political Spam - Part II
from the shut-'em-down dept
Following up on Friday's post about political spam, the company that hosted California gubernatorial candidate Bill Jones' website shut him down on Friday for the spam. They were back up on Saturday with a different hosting provider. It's amazing that the press secretary hasn't just said "we messed up big time" and is still trying to justify what they did. In related news, despite mulitple phone calls and emails to the campaign office of Holli Thier, a politician running for State Assembly, no one has gotten back to me as to why she sent me spam this weekend. If you happen to live in her district, I recommend not voting for her. Anyone clueless enough to spam people doesn't deserve to be in office. Update: Holli Thier just called me to explain where she got my email address from. She claims to have met me at an event a while back, but I have no recollection of having met her or giving her my email address (nor has at least one other person I know who received the same email from her).Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
