The Rising Tide Of Spam
from the it's-getting-worse dept
Yet another article about how we're all getting more and more spam these days. Here's what I don't understand: why do spammers want to keep sending spam to people who obviously don't want it? These people will never be valuable customers. Yet, the spammers continue to try to figure out ways to avoid filters and send spam to exactly the people who can't stand it. The article also has an interesting story about a spammer, "Bob", who buys email lists from sys admins of dying dot coms for a few hunded bucks a pop. Those sys admins know their company is going under, and figure selling the email lists are a way to get a little extra cash. Isn't that nice? I'm still not sure what the answer to spam is, but so far it doesn't seem like anything is working.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
