Ad Critic Gets Bought By Ad Age

from the phew dept

So, it appears AdCritic.com won't die after all. The Ad Age Group has purchased the site and will relaunch it, along with content from their various advertising related magazines. However, it does look like much of the site will be accessible only with subscription fees...

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    That's great...

Make consumers pay for ads! There's a revenue-generator! You get 'em coming and going...

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that consumers would pay money to see advertising....?

I'm thoroughly disgusted. I wonder how many morons are actually going to pay the $69.95 a year they're asking. *start sarcasm* Of course, you get a free subscription to "Creativity" magazine if you sign up! *end sarcasm*

    Re: IRONY

Nope you are not. If anyone should pay to keep Adcritic alive it should be those companies who's commercials are hosted on the server. Compare the cost of the TV slot to what Adcritic would need. I'm really annoyed and unless someone is willing to share their logon information with me, it looks like I won't be using Adcritic.com. It's a shame. I used to take my dial up modem right to the limit with their site...
