Kidnapping Over A Rocket Belt

from the script-needs-a-rewrite... dept

This one reads like the plot to a bad movie. These two guys worked together to build a "rocket belt" that could lift the wearer off the ground for a few seconds. It appears they had a falling out with each other, and various court cases followed changing who had legal "ownership" of the belt. The most recent case awarded it to one of the guys - but the other one refused to give it up. So, the first guy allegedly had the other one kidnapped in order to get the belt back. They convinced the guy to go out to California for a "job opportunity", even though he was on parole and not allowed to leave either Arkansas or Texas. Once he got to California he was put "in a chokehold with a gun to his head", and then stuck in a box. He escaped a week later (it doesn't sound like the "kidnappers" were professionals). I'm wondering if the movie script has already been optioned... The belt itself has been missing since 1995, which is too bad, because I think I want one.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Yea, I want one too. If it didn't lift me up at least it'll lift up my pants. Either way, I would be happy.

I guess I have to agree with you that this whole RocketBelt thing seems to be a little ridiculous. Just to update you on the facts. I was not out on parole at the time of the kiddnapping I was out on bond. I had been arrested for breaking into my own office. The burglary charge was dropped and thrown out of court over 2 years ago in Ft Smit, Arkansas which is located in Sebastian County. Case # CR-99-118-G STATE OF ARKANSAS VS BRADLEY WAYNE BARKER. Go to (http://www.swtimes.com/archive/2002/April/28/news/rocket_man.html)fot the full story. For further information feel to call me at 830-832-9770. By the way my ex-partner was sentenced to life plus 10 years on Nov 23, 2002
