Carly's Voicemail Not A Smoking Gun
from the calm-down,-calm-down dept
I've been reading the thousand or so articles going around today concerning Carly Fiorina's voicemail message suggesting that HP might need to do "something extraordinary" to make certain investors vote in favor of the merger. I couldn't really see what the big deal is. It seems that most people are over reacting, and the voice mail is no "smoking gun" proving that HP did anything illegal. It all depends on how you interpret it - and it's pretty easy to interpret the conversation as being completely legitimate. All she is saying is that if they need to convince these investors, they'll have to put on quite a show. At least, that's exactly what she will say about it - and since it's perfectly reasonable to believe that explanation, I don't see how the voice mail is "proof" of anything.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
