The Hardest Working Billionaire In Silicon Valley
from the keeping-up-appearances dept
Vinod Khosla has been talked about quite a lot around Silicon Valley with no shortage of opinions. Here's an article talking about the effort he's been putting into salvaging the various companies he's invested in - sometimes (according to plenty of people) going too far. Khosla, of course, is famous for founding Sun and for a number of hugely successful investments as a partner at Kleiner Perkins. He's apparently extremely proud of his record, and sees each failure as a blight on that record. The article tells a few stories about his recent attempts to save companies, that involves all sorts of tricky dealings - spinning off parts, combining them with other companies in his portfolio, "horse trading" with othe companies to get deals to go through, and rapidly changing business models to find something (anything) that works. Definitely an interesting read into some of what happens behind the scenes these days at some startups.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
