Multimedia Player With Spyware Deletes Anti-Spyware
from the spy-vs-anti-spy dept
The battle continues. As more and more free software programs include annoying spyware and adware, they're starting to battle back against the anti-spyware programs designed to stop them. The latest is a multimedia application called RadLight, that includes some spyware applications. On installation of RadLight, not only does it install the spyware programs - it looks for and deletes anti-spyware software that the user may have installed. It's getting to the point that it's not worth installing any software any more. I'm still amazed that companies that bundle spyware think that this is a reasonable business model. Business models that consist of pissing off your users generally don't last very long.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

I hate EULAs
Would it be too much to ask that they display them in an easier format, perhaps something wider than 60 characters, 8 lines at a time?

Re: I hate EULAs
Since that's not the case, I rely on download.com's user reviews to tell me when something contains spyware.

Re: I hate EULAs
Unfortunately, even WITH the license agreements, there are no sure ways to tell if you're going to be installing spyware. UGh.
