Couples Love Their Mobile Phones

from the can't-get-away dept

It's studies like this that make us single folks cynical concerning our more "attached" friends. A new study has shown that one-third of couples with mobile phones call or text message each other more than 10 times a day. Of course, texting and talking are quite different - so if the majority of that is via text then I don't think it's that surprising. However, they also found that over 80% contact their significant other within minutes of parting in the morning to "update" them on their journey to work (gag reflex, please). Interestingly, while plenty will use the phone to nag their partner about something they forgot to do, not as many will call to say they're staying for an extra drink after work (or they might call and lie about traffic, when they're really staying for an extra drink).

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Mike, it's spring: there is love in the air (or airwaves). A little more romanticism, please!

    Well...

For what it's worth, we're on the plan that we have because, in addition to free weekends, we get free phone to phone family plan minutes.

Can't say we call each other "that" much, but we could with no extra impact & that's just plain handy.

      Re: Well...

And with both working full time jobs, it takes a few calls now and then just to handle the logistics of maintaining a house and kid(s). Most common call I get from the wife is while I'm at the grocery store - "I forgot to put eggs on the list" kind of thing.
