Dot Biz And Dot Info Sites Few And Far Between

from the register-yes,-develop-no dept

I still get a few spam messages every day telling me to register domains in the new top level domains. While these domains have received quite a bit of hype, it seems that people have been slow to develop them. Many .biz and .info names have been registered - but not to develop. There are plenty that are not hosted anywhere, or that simply don't have any content on the site. You don't see many of them in the top traffic sites. The article names the top .biz site, which is a porn site that only got their high ranking (overall number 2,134) because going to the site pops up tons of advertisements from the site as well, making each visit like many visits.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Beanie babies

Just like Beanie Babies, the only people buying these domain names are collectors hoping to cash in on them. Someone somewhere thinks he's going to get a gazillion bucks for business.biz.
