Star CEOs Lose Their Glow

from the take-'em-down-a-notch dept

It seems that along with the economic downturn, people are no longer looking up to the various "star" CEOs who ran the big companies and could be found each week on a different magazine cover. These CEOs (for the most part) built up their reputations during the economic boom, and now are feeling the effects of having it turn on them. I've said before that I always get nervous about company profiles that focus more on the people than the company. However, people stories are interesting, and do sell magazines. Unfortunately, magazine covers don't factor in to a company's own revenues (and, actually, the article mentions a study saying that companies with more "cover stories" about their executives tended to overpay for acquisitions).
