Understanding The Screen Language

from the what-are-they-saying dept

John Seeley Brown, who always has something interesting to say, spoke recently about technology and education, saying that we can all learn a lot from how teenagers use the internet to better understand their vernacular - which he calls the "screen language". Sounds a bit academic, but basically what he seems to be saying is that kids pick up the technology faster than many adults - and we should see how they're using it. Instead of trying to design educational tools from the adult technology perspective - perhaps we should design it keeping in mind how the actual students of today use technology.
