Accuracy Is Addictive

In the mid-to-late 1980s I ended up doing a math report on GPS, explaining the very basic mathematics involved in figuring out where you were based on signals between a ground station and at least three satellites flying overhead. It was a fun project, and since then I've always been interested in GPS and location-based technologies. The Economist has an article telling the history of GPS and explaining the very basics of how it works. As GPS becomes more popular it's interesting to see how people are taking this technology and finding new and completely unexpected uses for it, such as in timing sensitive industries like banking.
