Just Two More Quarters... Again

from the one-of-these-days,-they'll-be-right dept

It was over a year ago that we first noticed a trend we saw in mid 2000. Analysts started predicting, consistently, that a recovery was just two quarters away. This seemed like the perfect prediction. It seemed reasonable to anyone listening, made them feel good, and by the time those six months had rolled by, everyone would have forgotten the prediction. Well, it's been many more than two quarters since the first two quarter notice happened, and what do we find out now? Gartner is telling us today that we just need to wait two more quarters to see spending rebound. One of these days, one of these analysts is actually going to get it right completely by chance, and they'll be held up as the next great analyst who "correctly" called the rebound.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Rebound

2 Quarters .... HHHMMM I just dabble a little in stocks and I think it is going to be at least a year ('04 probally) before we start to see real signs of recovery. A true rebound is going to take more than the smoke and mirrors of increasing consumer debt to make a real recovery.
