Your Desktop As A Rorschach Test
from the psychologists-and-technology-don't-mix dept
I may get into trouble with certain psychologists I know, but I get worried when they start looking too much at technology. They often seem to be coming up with solutions to problems that don't exist, and answers to questions that haven't been asked. That's why, at the height of the dot com boom, we had to deal with the new disease of sudden wealth syndrome, and now we find out that an individual's computer desktop can say a lot about their inner desires and ambitions. I think mine would say that I desire as much clutter in my life as possible. Amazingly, though, I cleaned up my desktop last week for the first time in two and a half years. I'm scared of what psychologists might think that means. I think it just means I ran out of screen space.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
