We Need A Game To Learn About File Swapping?
from the interesting-way-of-teaching dept
I usually agree with things the EFF does, but I'm not quite sure I understand the point of their Carabella game to help teach people about issues related to online file sharing. It seems like the only people who would even come across such a thing, are people who already are quite well versed in most of those issues - and for those who aren't, I'm not sure they'd really get anything out of such a simple game. The "point" of the game is to help someone try to find the music they want, without spending money, without giving up their privacy rights, and without infringing on someone's intellectual property. They say they just want people to understand all the various issues they need to think about if they're going to be involved in online file trading - which is certainly a worthy goal. However, I'm not sure this is the most effective way to do so.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
