Another Anti-File Trading Bill Proposed

from the silly-lawmakers,-when-will-you-learn? dept

Congressional Representative Howard Berman, who it will surprise no one to find out is from a district right next to Hollywood, has proposed a copyright owner vigilante law, which would allow copyright owners the ability to use misleading and previously illegal tactics to go after file trading systems. The RIAA is thrilled, of course, and can't wait to start trashing all their customers' computers. The bill isn't all that clearly described, but does say that copyright owners will be able to create misleading files and other such systems to confuse P2P systems. Of course, I wasn't aware that it was currently illegal to put up such materials - and there's already plenty of evidence that record companies already do this.
