Biometrics Helps Our Privacy?

Biometric systems (such as face recognition and fingerprint locks) have gotten a bad reputation as being tools of "big brother" for spying on citizens. It seems the biometrics industry has finally realized that maybe this is a "bad thing". So, instead of actually convincing us that they won't be used for such things - it appears they're going on some sort of PR campaign to convince us that the same tools used in the same way really improve our privacy. In fact, it appears that this column is really pushing for all biometric security systems to tie into a national database, which is likely to make the privacy violations even worse. Update: Anyway, as this other article points out, maybe we should be more worried about how marketers will use this technology.
