Koreans Facing Same Music Sharing Issues

from the sounds-familiar dept

It seems that it isn't just the US with a stupid recording industry association forcing the closure of file trading systems that consumers use to find new music. Over in Korea, the Recording Industry Association of Korea is forcing a file sharing system to close, pissing off its users - who are threatening to boycott album buying in response. The users of the site say that the downturn in music buying isn't because people are sharing music, but because the Korean music industry releases albums based on the musicians' looks, and not their talent.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

I can't figure out what the US music industry releases albums based on, but IT isn't talent either.

    And to blame is ...?

but because the Korean music industry releases albums based on the musicians' looks, and not their talent

You can thank that vapid craphole MTV for setting this precedent of looks over talent. Back in my day, bands were ugly and they rocked.

    F*CK YOU MTV!
