Why Does Nokia Hate Us So?

The idea of a GPRS/Wi-Fi combo card makes so much sense I'm surprised there aren't more of them. Nokia makes the D311 and D211. The D311 is for the US market, but as usual Nokia sends us the second rate merchandise. The D311 only supports 14.4 kbps in GPRS mode, while the D211 supports 43.2 kbps. Why do they even bother making a US version?

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Nokia D311/D211

Forgot to mention... the reason there are two versions is that US operates on different GSM frequency bands than Asia/Europe. I suppose they can make a tri- or even quad-band version that will work globally.

    Nokia D311

Is the D311 still available for purchase? Will it be available in markets other than Cingular?
