ICANN Gets Another Year To Shape Up

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, but despite numerous questions concerning their motivations, ICANN's contract managing the internet's DNS system was extended for another year by the U.S. Commerce Department. About the only good that comes out of this announcement is that the Commerce Department made it clear that they're "disappointed" with ICANN so far. Part of the one year extension is that ICANN is supposed to continue to reform themselves and open up some more. It will be interesting to see if they comply. Their efforts at "reform" so far, have been more about becoming more closed - not more open.
