Giving Webcasters A Little More Time

from the just-delaying-the-inevitable-execution? dept

Amazingly, a Congressman has proposed a very last minute bill called the "Relief for Small Business Webcasters", which is designed to prevent the new webcasting fees from taking effect (they're supposed to start October 20) until the various lawsuits surrounding those fees have been concluded. Of course, many small webcasters have already shut down, realizing that fees seem to be inevitable and will drive them out of business. Update: Of course, it's no surprise that the RIAA is not happy about this development, saying, "this is a surprising development, considering how productive our discussions with the Webcasters have been". I'm not sure that webcasters would categorize the same discussions as "productive".
