Radio Killed The Radio Star
from the consolidation-at-work dept
A former editor for a radio trade magazine (that went out of business) went to the recent National Association of Broadcasters convention to find out what they thought of the state of radio today. He was amazed at how out of touch they all seemed. Most seemed to believe that there was more diversity on the radio today than there had been in the past - and that it was better for everyone. Apparently, none of them actually turn on the radio to pick through their choices of pre-programmed Clear Channel packaged radio programming. They also seem to believe that it really doesn't matter - because radio "always" survives. Yet another reason why I don't listen to the radio at all.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Radio
Why, in a country where you have supermarket aisles dedicated to 47 different kinds of milk because choice is clearly a good thing (TM), is there so little choice in entertainment?
