The Ryze Surprise
from the six-degrees-done-right? dept
Back in March I somehow came across Ryze, and signed up for an account. I played around for a bit, showed it to a couple of friends, and then never went back. I still get emails from them every week that I usually don't read. The idea is nice, but I didn't have time for it, and it seemed a little buggy at the time. It's basically a site that makes it easy to network with young professionals. Apparently a lot of people use it to help get them jobs or new business. However, according to the article, some folks are a bit scared about what the founder is really planning to do with the site - and are afraid that they're going to be exploited. I think that might just be the paranoia speaking, but I do wonder if Ryze actually becomes more or less useful as it grows. Obviously, initially, the network effects help as it grows - but does it reach a point of saturation, after which there are simply too many people and too many things going on to make it useful?Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
