Product Lifecycle Management

from the the-next-big-buzzword dept

I've read a few articles here and there about similar offerings, but it sounds like product lifecycle management (PLM) software is about to become the next big enterprise software buzzword. Unfortunately, just like so many enterprise software products, I imagine many companies will sign up for a PLM installation, thinking that it's a cure-all. They won't spend the time and resources necessary to install it properly and to train (and convince) people to use it properly. In a few years we'll be hearing all these stories about wasteful PLM implementations that took many years and millions of dollars and did nothing to save companies money - as they continue to fax product plans back and forth. Technology certainly can be helpful, and PLM sounds like a great solution for certain organizations. I just worry when we get too focused on the concept and ignore the implementation issues.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
