Washington State Ferries Eye Wi-Fi

Continuing the trend of local governments to look into offering WiFi connectivity, folks in Seattle are looking for some money from the federal government to create a wifi network that will run across all the ferries in the area, so that anyone can access the internet while they commute. It also has the side benefit of finally allowing food vendors on the ferry to offer credit card processing - but everything thinks the public wifi access is the real selling point. It will be interesting, however, to see where this trend goes. Are companies going to get upset when they find themselves competing against local governments to provider wireless internet access, or will they support it as a way of increasing the overall demand for hotspots?
