Reuters Accused Of Hacking

from the cutthroat-business-news-business dept

Apparently the world of business news reporting is so cutthroat that some are resorting to hacking. Swedish IT company Intentia is accusing Reuters, the well known news agency, of hacking into their computers and releasing their quarterly financial information early. I really doubt that someone at Reuters thought such news was so important that it was worth hacking into a computer to get it an hour or so before it was set to be released, but what do I know? I guess these days the business news companies are so desperate for news that they need to sneak it out early. Update: More details on the story. It seems that the company placed the info on a website with no protection. It wasn't linked from anywhere, but it was available to anyone who knew the proper URL. Not sure how it's "hacking" if they didn't actually break into anything.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
