Survey: Camera Phone Market Booms, But Nokia Lags
Camera phones might just be the thing to help spark usage of advanced data networks. They are already huge in Japan which accounted for 83 percent of all camera phones sales in the first 3 quarters of 2002. With a head start on Nokia and SonyEricsson, Asian handset makers might be able to grab some significant market share outside of Asia. Samsung is already a force to be reckoned with. And Vodafone is carrying models from Sharp and Panasonic. Nokia and other traditional players need to worry about more than just losing market share to Asian camera phones. The Asian upstarts are hungry and willing to be more responsive to operators' needs.
