Why Websites Are Getting Easier To Use

from the only-took-a-decade dept

After years of absolutely painful web surfing experiences, the BBC is suggesting that many websites are finally realizing that website usability is important. They point out that, of course, many web designers are still fascinated with the concept of making something look good, rather than making it useable. As a side note, this is the first mainstream article about usability I've seen in a long time that manages not to quote Jakob Nielsen.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Examples?

An article about website usability should contain examples of both good and bad design. Don't you think?

    No Subject Given

Usability from a design aspect is only part of the problem. What these websites need to start paying attention to is we "freaks" who land at their sites using - God forbid - operating systems and browsers that don't come from the Redmond Beast and are shut out of certain features - or the entire site. Where we once were a tiny enough percentage to ignore, the numbers are growing. And over here in LinuxLand we *can't* surrender to IE. Not that we want to....

Design affects the engagement of users on the website or online portfolio. It can work on edge for the exponential growth of the business. With time technology advancing so does creativity. So many challenges in Web Designing since you not only have to be creative, you have to impress the viewers with it.

Yes. It's indeed true that websites are getting easier to use. As my website "https://www.motorforlife.com/", it's my first website and I've not experienced any serious difficulty.
