CNN, ABC News Merger Stalled

from the so-complex dept

Back in September we reported the rumore that ABCNews and CNN would merge their news divisions in order to better take on rivals like NBC/MSNBC and Fox/FoxNews. However, now, AOL-Time Warner is saying the deal has been put on hold because it's too complex. I don't think that's true. Complexities on how to merge organizations can be worked out. The deal has been put on hold because someone isn't happy about how the money will shake out.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    money, money, money

Of course it's about money, no point in merging and leveraging assets if it wasn't for money. The complexity is a cover for who is going to pull the longer end of the revenue stick.

    No Subject Given

In one of The Simpsons episode, that describes the future, Kent Brockman is supposedly working for ABCNNBC. I guess the script writers couldn't be closer to the truth.
