Interland Buys Trellix
from the Bricklin-cashes-out dept
Trellix has definitely been a fun company to follow over the years, as they continued to tweak their products and even step into the blogging world. Now, they've decided that it makes sense to sell out to a company that would provide them with more resources to focus on products, and not have to worry so much about finding customers. Last night, the "big" small business hosting company, Interland, announced they were buying Trellix. The Trellix team, including (of course) Dan Bricklin, will continue working for Interland. Interland will incorporate Trellix's tools into their webhosting system, which definitely makes sense. I wonder, though, how much it limits the ability to sell Trellix into other hosting companies and ISPs. The Trellix tools will clearly be a competitive advantage for Interland, but it might be a difficult advantage to convey to users looking for a webhosting company. Most small businesses looking for a hosting company are looking for the cheapest options, with useful tools being a lower priority item.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
