AT&T Wireless Fine Print Irks Customers
Mobile phone contracts are often very confusing, with plenty of stuff hidden in the fine print. Now, many customers are angry at AT&T Wireless for not making it clear that, once their contract expired, they didn't automatically switch to the same plan on a month-to-month basis, like most other wireless carriers. Instead, they dropped the customers down to a minimal plan, meaning they had to pay ridiculous per minute fees when they went over - which many of them did. The first time they realized that there was a problem was when they started receiving bills for hundreds of dollars. Yet another example of how bad the wireless carriers handle customer service. Someone at AT&T Wireless clearly thought it was a better idea to trick customers than to be upfront with them. To thank them, I'm sure plenty of people will be moving to a different carrier.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
