DirecTV DSL No More

from the bye-bye dept

Trey writes "According to Broadband Reports, DirecTV has decided to can their DSL service, and today let plenty of surprised employees go. Their support center in Oregon was completely flushed clean, and employees for the company are commenting in the article's comments section...." This also means that 160,000 customers are about to lose their DSL. Having lived through exactly that experience multiple times, I can tell you it's no fun. For those wondering, no, I had nothing to do with the death of DirecTV DSL. It seems that my powers have been pushed onto someone else's unlucky shoulders.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Are you sure you haven't had DirectTV?

    LOL at your last comment.

After sending in the "I'll never go back from Broadband" post last week, I've had the experience of having my broadband go down, and having ATTBI tell me that they will send a tech out in 2 weeks.

    Serves me right.

$%*& !! This is why I read techdirt...

    First I'm hear of this...

I was a very happy Telocity customer and was very displeased by the DirecTV buyout, but the service remained excellent and even got better.

I can say this, if they do actually follow through with the shutdown I'll also cancel my Sat. TV account as well.

    No Subject Given

This is actually a big negative. As these viable alternatives keep shutting down, it looks like the only source of DLS will be your local phone company.

And when's the last time any one had anything good to say about their phone companies service ? ? ?

    Why tell the customer?

The first I heard about this was a phone call from my brother who had seen it on Slashdot.

There is still no official communication from DirecTVDSL to us, the customers.
