Web Advance Sales Of Two Towers Soar
from the buying-online dept
I doubt this surprises anyone, but it seems that many of the people going to see the new Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers movie are buying tickets online. As they point out, the type of people who really want to see The Two Towers are the sort of people who are probably used to online shopping. Knowing that the theaters are going to be quite crowded for these shows, it makes sense to buy online. The various online ticketing companies are thrilled, thinking that this could be their breakthrough. Of course, if it's people who are used to buying tickets online, then it's unlikely to be much of a breakthrough. However, if new people are testing out the system, and realize how much easier it is (and it is much easier), then perhaps this one event could help shift things in favor of online movie ticket buying.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Hello? Who is going to see LOTR?
So since "Nerds" usually live on their computers, and for many of them, this was the first time out of the house and in daylight for weeks (hell, I spend most of my time at work from before dawn to after dusk on the computer too,) it is no surprise that they ordered their tickets over the internet, as they do with their Christmas gifts and everything else.
I am still trying to figure out an automated system for retrieving my mail from the mailbox and shuttling it to my computer room so I don't have to get up and check the mailbox...
