What Your Ringtone Says About You

from the too-much-pop-psychology dept

Psychologist Graham Wilson believes that your choice of ringtones can reveal more about yourself that you might think. For example, young people choose popular music to show they fit in. An aggresive young professional may choose an action movie or tv show theme because they have no real action or drama in their lives. And people who don't choose ringtones at all view their phones a purely functional items and are too busy to download or choose a custom ringtone. This very scientific research is just another reason people should set their phone to vibrate most of the time.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    No Subject Given

Vibrate mode may tell you even more about the person. ;-)

Yeah, that we hate the sound of cell phones, and would much rather "feel" your call instead of "hear" it...

I don't think my cell phone has ever been set up to ring since I first changed the factory defaults...and yes, a cell phone is both perfectly functional and completely evil, a device from the 8th level of hell, (I hate mine, but find it to be one of those necessary evils I cannot live without.)

    My analysis

I can tell more by how long people let their phones ring or play their tune. If you let your ringtone play long enough that people who aren't "Name That Tune" contestants can figure out the song, then you're not being terribly considerate.
