Mobile Petulance Threatens 3G
An opinion piece taking O2 to task for blaming their decision to delay their 3G launch on the ruling in the UK that mobile phone operators need to reduce the "termination rates" they charge for calls made on their networks by other carriers. The article points out that 3G has plenty of problems already that have resulted in delays, and adding this to the list isn't going to win any fans. 3G has been consistently and repeatedly overhyped and under delivered. The one application that had promise, MMS, has been declawed because no one can agree on interoperability yet. The moves that carriers like O2 are making, as they focus on cutting costs, rather than providing consumers what they've been promising as a 3G service, make it even less likely that 3G service are going to catch on.
