The US Catches On To SMS

The Boston Globe has an article about how SMS text messaging is finally starting to catch on in the US. As expected, it's the kids who are picking it up first, though there are a core group of adults who have taken to SMSing because it's "useful". The article predicts that carriers will soon start more heavily marketing the SMS features, because people are unlikely to just stumble across them. It makes sense to do so, since it still seems like most American users don't think of their mobile phone as a data device in any way. Introducing SMS to them helps to overcome that barrier - but it also runs the risk of what those in Europe and Asia are finding now. What if people discover SMS and then realize that's "good enough", and they don't want the more advanced features that the carriers have just spent billions implementing?
