Yet Another Invisibility Technology

from the everything's-going-translucent dept

Invisibility is the next big thing, apparently. Last week we had the story of Japanese researchers working on an invisibility system, and now there are reports from researchers in Europe working on terahertz radiation "photographs" that would let people see through certain objects. Everything apparently gives off terahertz radiation, but the waves can pass through some materials. In the article, they talk about a photograph of a hand was taken through a stack of papers and (get this) a human body was shown through the clothes they wore. After years of cheap plastic glasses claiming they could see through clothes, this technology might actually make it possible. Forget medical uses and bomb detection stuff: just think of the market for teenaged boys...

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Old news

I've read about this back in the early 90s. The images are still very poor quality. Looks like it's a pretty difficult medium to work with.

    Teenaged boys

I'm sure there is a market for teenaged boys, but you would have to be pretty odd to want to buy one though. I have one at home and I couldn't give him away!!

    Re: Teenaged boys

Actually, this would be a hard sell.

Teenage boys are interested in beauty -- which is skin deep. This camera goes right through the skin.

I doubt that I would be to interested in erotic pictures of a girl's spleen or liver.
