Siemens Launches Mobile Business Applications
Siemens isn't a very big player in the US handset business (though they are working on it). But they are a major player in Europe. They are trying to leverage their existing relationships with carriers to position themselves a one-stop-shop for wireless enterprise solutions. For example they are pitching new family of mobile applications named m.traction. The most interesting of which is the m.traction Personal Assistant. This application can automatically provide updated travel information when meeting plans change and recommend a new schedule. It sounds very similar to Symbian's Magpie technology, which pushes content down to devices and embeds it in applications where it's in context. So far smartphones have focused on email, picture messaging, and video calling, each an application in itself. But with smartphones treading on PDA territory it would stand to reason that the next wave of applications should try to make these handsets smarter by internet enabling the PIM features.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
