Microsoft, Ballmer Working On PR Campaign To Fix Reputation

from the is-it-PR-or-is-it-real? dept

I guess, if you're starting a PR campaign, you might as well go with the local newspaper. The Seattle Times is running an interview with Microsoft's Steve Ballmer, trying to convince the world that Microsoft has chanaged and they're a better company than they've been in the past. The problem, of course, is that their reputation precedes them by quite a large margin, and many people wonder if Microsoft has really changed their behavior... or just changed their PR strategy.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Very humorous. One of the things most needed by microsoft to repair to reputation is to get rid of the people who developed the reputation. ie Mr. Gates and Mr. Ballamer. Til they go, who's gonna trust them ?

It's like the old proverb about the scorpion who askes the frog/turtle for a ride across the stream and promises not to sting him. And as they sink together the Turtle/Frog asks Why ? To which the scorpion replies, 'because I'm a scorpion'.
