Flash Kid - Deja Vu?

from the sounds-familiar dept

Forbes is running an article that sounds like it was written seven or eight years ago about a very successful web design firm run by a seventeen-year-old kid who has never met most of his employees. The employees are distributed everywhere, and "meet" via email or instant messenger. The "old geezer" of the bunch is 30 years old and handles any face-to-face meeting requirements. Most customers (and they've got some large ones) have no clue they're hiring such a group of designers. I remember when there were stories like this all the time in the mid to late 90s, so I'm not sure what's so amazing about it happening again. Rich Karlgaard, who writes the article, also seems positively amazed at the idea of software like Cold Fusion letting people design web pages without knowing any programming. I hate to break it to him, but such programs (including Cold Fusion) have been around for many years as well.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

old story but relatively clueless as well

I mean c'mon--Flash is a 3-D graphics program. Not quite. I love when biz writers display their complete understanding of technology. Worse yet, they typically are the ones who write "down to earth" that the masses read.
