Fujitsu, T-Mobile Team Up To Offer Limited Free WiFi
Since very few people are signing up to use T-Mobile's WiFi hotspots, they're trying a new strategy. They've signed a deal with Fujitsu, so that anyone who buys a new Fujitsu laptop can get 2,000 free hours of WiFi access at any T-Mobile hotspot. Basically, it's the AOL "freebie" method of trying to get people hooked. While I'm sure people will use the 2000 free hours, I'm not convinced that too many people will sign up for paid access afterwards - unless T-Mobile drastically changes their pricing scheme. Of course, it also appears that there's plenty of fine-print, and the deal is only good until the end of June. It's unclear if the 2000 free hours are good forever, until the end of June, or something silly like "in a single month".Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
