GSM Subscriber Tally Grows In The Americas

GSM subscriber numbers are pretty low in the Americas compared to Europe and Asia. But subscriber growth is starting to pick up as more TDMA operators convert to GSM. Between September 2001 and September 2002 GSM subscribers increased by 37 percent in the Americas. With 100.7 million TDMA subscribers and 83.7 million CDMA subscribers in the Americas, we'll see the gap between GSM and CDMA closing over the next 10 years if TDMA operators get aggressive with network conversion. It's unrealistic that all TDMA subscribers will switch to GSM when you consider that there are still 27.8 million analog subscribers in the region.
