Nintendo Hooks Hopes On New Game Boy
from the shfiting-loyalties dept
Nintendo is clearly having trouble these days. The GameCube has been struggling against the PS2 and the Xbox, even leading some retailers to threaten to remove the GameCube from their shelves. So now, Nintendo is pinning their hopes on the one area where they do have an advantage: handheld gaming, with their hugely popular GameBoy Advance. They're hoping that people buying the GameBoy will think happy thoughts about Nintendo which will convince them to buy a GameCube as well. That might be wishful thinking. They might be better off ditching the GameCube completely, and just focusing on handheld gaming. They have a huge advantage there, with the only competition coming from new players who are unestablished in the field.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

What? Why? Nintendo are still running second world wide, they are still selling their consoles at a profit (whereas MS are losing $100 on each console sold, not to mention that they give away 3-4 games with each bundle)
How long do you think it will be before both Sony and MS, not to mention various phone companies, have their own hand helds? True, some of these may not suceed, but it's not wise to put all of your eggs in one basket.
Lastly, have you heard of the E-Reader and GameCube player? Nintendo think are an important part of their future, and I agree. They make the GameCube and GBA work together as one, to both enhance games and play GBA games on your TV. Soon they will be launching a bundle deal, GBA with GameCube.
Nintendo are launching fantastic games in the next few months, and they are working hard to ensure quality third part support. They have secured many new games from Capcom, along with the Resident Evil series, a new and exclusive Metal Gear and Eclipse from Konami, the vastly popular Harvest Moon series, Chrystal Chronicals (final fantasy) from Square. F-Zero, Too Human, Starfox, Rogue Leader 3, Ikaruga, Giftopia, Eternal Darkness 2, and so on and so on....
In my opinon, it is the console to own at this point in time.

I just bought a PS2 after 2+ years of resistance. I had to break down and buy it specifically to play Vice City, I could not resist any longer! That has been the only game I've bought on PS2 though, while I've owned as many as 10 game cube games at one time.
